asteroide 50240 "Cortina"
La mattina del 28 gennaio 2000, cercando supernovae, il ricercatore del CROSS Alessandro Dimai ha individuato un nuovo asteroide, presente nelle immagini della galassia NGC4394 nella Chioma di Berenice. Le prime analisi hanno rivelato che si tratta di un pianetino che vaga tra Marte e Giove, con un diametro stimato di 4-5 km e orbita ellittica molto allungata ed inclinata di quasi 13° sull'eclittica, mentre il periodo orbitale è leggermente superiore ai 4 anni. All’oggetto fu inizialmente data la sigla provvisoria 2000BY3; successivamente la Minor Planet Circolar 48398 del 1° marzo 2003 ha assegnato al pianetino il nome definitivo 50240 “Cortina”, con i seguenti elementi orbitali:

In the morning of Jan. 28, 2000, searching for supernovae, the researcher Alessandro Dimai of CROSS has identified an asteroid on the images of the galaxy NGC4394 in Coma Berenices. The first analysis revealed that this was a minor planet that orbits between Mars and Jupiter, with an estimated diameter of 4 or 5 km and very elongated elliptical orbit and tilted almost 13 ° on the ecliptic. Its orbital period it's about 4 years long. At the object was initially given the temporary code 2000BY3; then the Minor Planet circular # 48398 of March 1, 2003 has assigned the final name 50240 "Cortina", in honor to the famous holiday resort "queen" of the Dolomites.
